Welcome to Crab Town Magazine

Hello friends. Just wanted to write you a little note to welcome you to Crab Town Magazine. It doesn’t look like much now, but it will soon be your favourite thing on the internet. I bet you want to know more!

Why is it called Crab Town? The story may not be true, but as far as I (Jeph, the co-founder/editor of Crab Town Magazine) am aware, my ancestors in Vancouver once lived in a decrepit shanty town on the harbour, which was called “Crabtown”. According to other websites (such as this one), Crabtown was built by squatters who were having tough times in the olden days. With little resources, these resilient possible ancestors of mine built stilt houses over the water and did pretty good for themselves. Likewise, I have no resources for starting a magazine, except for a modicum of resiliency. This site is my squatter town on the internet, etc.... Now is the time where I try to build it up out of nothing, and (here I have to leave this extended metaphor), you can be my audience – watching me succeed or fail at this goal.

You might now be wondering why this site looks so bad. That is because I am not a web designer. Neither is my co-publisher wife. Also, I have not hired a web designer. I really do want to launch the site now though; so I figured I’d launch it like this and try to fix it as times go by. Why not?

As long as everything goes smoothly, you can expect some good content updates over the next few days. We are really enjoying VIFF and are reviewing a number of the movies. In our Comics section, we will be launching a retrospective of an amazing online comic that you most likely never saw when it was online. Also, there will be a lot of other reviews, and some angry opinion pieces.
